The destination

About Morocco

Morocco holds the senses with its rare blend of Andalusian heritage and Moroccan craft, and with a landscape that runs from the shores of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean to the high peaks of the Atlas and the golden dunes of the Sahara. Saudi citizens enter without a visa, on a direct flight from Jeddah to Casablanca.

In Marrakech, the red city, you find Jemaa el-Fna, the Koutoubia minaret, the Bahia Palace and the Majorelle Garden, with the Atlas mountains and their villages an hour away. In Fes, the country's scholarly and spiritual capital, you walk through Fes el Bali, the largest car-free old city in the world, home to Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, founded in 859, the Marinid madrasas and the traditional tanneries.

In the north, Chefchaouen, the blue jewel of the Rif mountains, and Tangier on the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. On the Atlantic coast, Casablanca, the business capital, with the Hassan II Mosque reaching out over the ocean, and Essaouira with its sea walls and calm, artistic air.

We arrange your Morocco journey with quiet comfort: historic hotels and private riads, licensed Arabic-speaking guides, private drivers, the Al Boraq high-speed train between Tangier and Casablanca, and nights in the desert for those who wish.

Questions

Before you go

Do Saudi citizens need a visa for Morocco?
No. Saudi citizens enter Morocco without a visa for stays of up to 90 days with a valid passport. For residents of Saudi Arabia the rules depend on nationality, and some nationalities need an electronic visa; we check this with you before booking.
When is the best time to visit Morocco?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) for the cities. Summer is hot in Marrakech and Fes but mild on the coast and in Tangier; winter is sunny by day and cold at night, and the best season for the desert.
Is the food halal?
Yes, food is halal across Morocco. Some international hotels and restaurants serve alcohol, and on request we choose restaurants that do not.
Is it easy to pray?
Yes: there is a mosque in every quarter and the call to prayer is heard in every town. Historic mosques such as Al-Qarawiyyin and the Koutoubia are open to worshippers, and the five prayers are held at the Hassan II Mosque.
How do we travel between cities?
By private car with driver, or by train: the Al Boraq high-speed line links Tangier and Casablanca in about two hours ten, and the train from Casablanca to Marrakech takes about two hours forty. Domestic flights cover the longer distances.
Is Morocco safe for families?
Morocco is a stable country used to visitors, and its tourist cities are generally safe. We advise using the licensed guides we arrange and keeping an eye on belongings in busy souks.
What is the currency, and are cards accepted?
The currency is the Moroccan dirham. Cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants; cash is better in the souks. Exchange is available at the airport, in banks and at licensed bureaux.
What should we wear?
Modest, comfortable clothes in the old cities and good shoes for the cobbled lanes. In winter, warm layers for the evening, especially in Fes, the Atlas and the desert.
