Discover Cameron Highlands
The Cameron Highlands lie about 200 km north of Kuala Lumpur, between 800 and 1,600 metres above sea level, with an average yearly temperature of 18 °C. They take their name from the surveyor William Cameron, who mapped them in 1885, and became Malaysia's best-known hill station.
The highlight is the tea estates that cover the hills in parallel green rows, among them BOH's Sungei Palas estate with its café above the valleys. Brinchang and Tanah Rata have strawberry, vegetable and flower farms and night markets for local produce.
The drive from the capital takes about 3.5 hours, so we suggest at least two nights. The highlands suit those who enjoy walking in nature and quiet, and anyone wanting cool air in the Gulf summer.
