Nice and the French Riviera

The Côte d'Azur is the elegant stretch of south-eastern France that has drawn famous visitors to its beaches and resorts since the nineteenth century. Nice is its capital, listed by UNESCO in 2021 as Nice, the Winter Resort Town of the Riviera.

In Nice the Promenade des Anglais runs along the Baie des Anges, with the old town and the Cours Saleya flower and produce market behind it. Driving east towards Monaco you pass the Cap-Ferrat peninsula and then Èze, a village perched on a rock above the sea.

The climate is mild most of the year: June to September is the sea season, and spring and autumn suit village visits. Direct summer flights link Nice with Riyadh and Jeddah, and Paris is about an hour and a half away by air.
