Discover The Garden Route
The Garden Route is the famous coastal strip on South Africa's south coast, running about 300 kilometres between Mossel Bay and the Storms River, held between the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains and the Indian Ocean. It is known for green forests, clean lagoons, and outdoor pursuits such as walking and surfing.
Its best-known stops are Knysna, on a lagoon guarded by the cliffs of the Knysna Heads and surrounded by old forest, and Plettenberg Bay with its long beaches and seasonal whale and dolphin watching.
In the east lies Tsitsikamma, part of the Garden Route National Park, where a suspension bridge crosses the mouth of the Storms River between rocks and waves.
It is driven from Cape Town over two or three days, or reached by air to George. We suggest at least three nights.
