Central Europe's historic jewel, where history lives on

Poland, from Kraków's great square to the Tatra peaks

In Kraków a trumpeter plays from the tower of St Mary's every hour, as one has for centuries.

The destination

About Poland

Poland is one of Europe's most varied destinations, joining skilfully restored historic cities, medieval castles and unspoilt nature that ranges from the high Tatra Mountains to the Masurian lakes. It is safe, and costs are very fair compared with western Europe.

Kraków is its cultural and historic capital; its historic centre was among the first sites on the UNESCO list in 1978, and the Wieliczka Salt Mine is a short drive away. Warsaw is the modern capital, whose Old Town was entirely rebuilt after the Second World War. In the south, Zakopane lies at the foot of the Tatras; in the west, Wrocław is the city of bridges; and in the north, Gdańsk stands on the Baltic.

Summer, June to September, suits the cities, the mountains and the sea; winter, December to March, brings snow to Zakopane. Direct flights link Riyadh with Warsaw. At ZHO we arrange the Schengen visa file, the hotels, drivers and halal dining.

Questions

Before you go

Do I need a visa for Poland?
Yes. The Schengen visa is applied for in person at the Polish Embassy in Riyadh, with an appointment booked through the e-Consulate system no less than 15 days and no more than six months before travel. Since 2024 Saudi citizens may receive a 5-year multiple-entry visa on a first application if they meet the conditions. Our team prepares your file; the application itself is made by you in person.
When is the best time to visit Poland?
June to September for the cities, the Tatras and the Baltic coast; December to March for skiing in Zakopane; and December for Kraków's Christmas market.
Is halal food available in Poland?
Yes in Warsaw and Kraków, with halal Turkish, Arab and Indian restaurants. Zakopane and small towns have fewer options, so we ask your hotel for halal meals in advance; potato-and-cheese pierogi and fish are practical choices.
Where can I pray in Poland?
Warsaw has the Islamic Cultural Centre and other mosques, and Kraków and Gdańsk have prayer halls and mosques. Poland also has an old Muslim heritage through the Polish Tatars and their wooden mosques in the east. Many hotels provide the qibla direction on request.
How do I travel between Polish cities?
High-speed trains link Warsaw with Kraków in about two and a quarter hours and with Gdańsk in about three. For Zakopane, a private car from Kraków takes about two hours.
Is Poland safe for families?
Poland is among the safest countries in Europe. Just take care in crowded places, and use app-based taxis or those your hotel calls.
What is the currency, and are cards accepted?
The Polish złoty, not the euro. Cards and contactless payment are accepted almost everywhere; carry a little cash for mountain stalls and markets.
