The destination

About Tunisia

Tunisia is one of the finest destinations in North Africa, joining golden sandy beaches along the Mediterranean, a history that runs back thousands of years, the Andalusian and Mediterranean architecture of its coastal towns, and the desert oases of the south. Saudi citizens enter without a visa, on a direct flight from Jeddah of about four and a half hours.

Tunis has a medina on the UNESCO list since 1979, centred on the Zaytuna Mosque and its souks, and the Bardo Museum with its great collection of Roman mosaics. A few minutes away are Sidi Bou Said, the hillside village of white houses and blue doors inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2026, and the ruins of Carthage above the sea.

On the east coast, Sousse and Monastir have their beaches and their historic ribats, and Hammamet its walled medina on the sea; Hammamet is the country's first choice for rest and sea-water therapy. Inland stand the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem and Kairouan, the first Islamic city of the Maghreb.

In the south, Tozeur has its great palm oases and the Chott el Djerid, Tataouine its Amazigh ksour, and between them the film sets of Star Wars among the dunes. We arrange your Tunisia journey with chosen hotels by the sea and in the desert, and an Arabic-speaking driver and guide.

Questions

Before you go

Do Saudi citizens need a visa for Tunisia?
No. Saudi citizens enter Tunisia without a visa for stays of up to 90 days with a valid passport. For residents of Saudi Arabia the rules depend on nationality, and we check them with you before booking.
When is the best time to visit Tunisia?
April to June and September to October for the north and the coast, and summer for the sea if you do not mind the heat. The south and the desert are best from October to April.
Is the food halal?
Yes, meat is halal throughout Tunisia. Some hotels and tourist restaurants serve alcohol, and on request we choose restaurants that do not.
Is it easy to pray?
Yes: there are mosques in every town and village, among them historic ones such as the Zaytuna in Tunis and the Mosque of Uqba in Kairouan. We plan each day around prayer times.
How do we travel between cities?
By private car with driver: Tunis to Hammamet takes about an hour, to Sousse about two. The south is a long drive, or a domestic flight to Tozeur or Djerba when one is scheduled.
Is Tunisia safe for families?
Tunisia's main tourist areas are stable and receive visitors all year. We advise checking official travel advice before you leave, travelling with the driver and guide we arrange, and avoiding remote border areas.
What is the currency, and how do we exchange?
The currency is the Tunisian dinar, which may not be taken out of the country, so exchange it at the airport or a bank on arrival and keep the receipt. Cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants; cash is better in the souks.
What should we wear?
Modest dress in the medinas and mosques, light clothes for the coast, a scarf and sunglasses for the desert, and a warm jacket for winter nights in the south.
