Discover Helsingør
Helsingør stands at the narrowest point of the Øresund, about 4 km from the Swedish coast, where for centuries ships paid their dues to enter the Baltic. The train from Copenhagen takes about 45 minutes.
Kronborg Castle guards the strait with its ramparts and copper spires. One of the most important Renaissance castles of northern Europe, it was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2000, and is known worldwide as Elsinore in Shakespeare's Hamlet.
On the way from Copenhagen the coast passes the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art at Humlebæk, and half an hour inland stands Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, so all three fit into one day by private car.
