The destination

About Albania

Albania is one of the loveliest Mediterranean destinations that is still quiet and good value. It has a long coastline from the Adriatic in the north to the Ionian Sea in the south, where the Albanian Riviera has clear water and small coves beneath mountains of more than 2,000 m.

Most Albanians are Muslim by heritage, its towns have Ottoman mosques and old bazaars, and its cooking leans on lamb, vegetables and dairy. The Ottoman towns of Berat and Gjirokastër share a place on UNESCO's list, and in the south the ancient city of Butrint lies by a lagoon among eucalyptus woods.

Saudi citizens can enter Albania without a visa for tourism from 15 April to 31 December 2026, by decision of the Albanian Council of Ministers, and flynas runs seasonal direct flights from Riyadh to Tirana. Distances are short: Tirana to Berat is two hours, to the Riviera about three.

We arrange your journey with a private car and driver, chosen hotels in Tirana and on the coast, and guided tours of the historic towns, and we choose quiet beaches and resorts with private beaches for you.

Questions

Before you go

Do Saudi citizens need a visa for Albania?
Albania's Council of Ministers has exempted Saudi citizens from visas for tourism from 15 April to 31 December 2026; a passport is enough. This seasonal exemption has been repeated in past years but is decided each year, so we confirm the rule in force for your dates. Residents of Saudi Arabia need a visa depending on nationality, and we help with the application.
When is the best time to visit Albania?
May to October. June and September are best for the sea, with warm water and quieter beaches. July and August are hot and busy on the coast, while spring and autumn suit Tirana, Berat and Gjirokastër.
Is halal food available?
Most Albanians are Muslim by heritage and lamb and chicken are central to the cooking, but some restaurants serve pork. We therefore suggest places we know and ask about halal for you; fish and vegetable dishes are everywhere, especially on the coast.
Are there mosques?
Yes, every town has mosques, including the historic Et'hem Bey Mosque in Tirana and the Ottoman mosques of Berat and Gjirokastër, with the call to prayer. We plan tours around prayer times.
How do I get around Albania?
The best way is a private car with driver: trains are limited and the mountain roads need a driver who knows them. Distances are short: Tirana to Berat two hours, to the Riviera about three, to Sarandë about four and a half.
Are the beaches suitable for conservative families?
Yes, with the right choices. We suggest resorts with well-kept private beaches and private boats to quiet coves, and avoid crowded public beaches at the summer peak.
What is the currency, and are cards accepted?
The currency is the Albanian lek, and euros are taken in many hotels and tourist restaurants. Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants in the towns, but carry cash for bazaars and small villages.
