Discover Batumi
Batumi is the capital of the autonomous republic of Adjara on the Black Sea, known for its long modern boulevard, inventive new towers and lively summer seafront.
The boulevard follows the sea through gardens, fountains and cycle paths. In the old town, Piazza square is ringed with cafés, and the 19th-century Orta Jame Mosque serves the city's Muslims. Adjara's long-standing Muslim community makes halal food easier to find here than elsewhere in the country.
Nine kilometres north of the city, Batumi Botanical Garden covers 108 hectares on the Mtsvane Kontskhi cape above the sea, with plants from many climates and paths that look over the coast.
Batumi is about 370 km from Tbilisi, so we suggest flying or taking the train, or breaking the road journey with a night in Borjomi. It is best from June to September.
