Discover Geirangerfjord
The Geirangerfjord is a narrow arm of the sea winding between sheer rock walls in western Norway. Together with the Nærøyfjord it was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2005 as one of the finest examples of fjord landscape in the world. At its head is the small village of Geiranger, a harbour for boats and ferries in summer.
The fjord is known for its waterfalls: the Seven Sisters falling in seven parallel streams, the Suitor (Friaren) facing them, and the Bridal Veil. Sightseeing cruises of 75 minutes or two hours pass them all, and they are best seen from the water.
The views from land are just as fine: the Flydalsjuvet platform above the village, the Dalsnibba summit at about 1,500 metres, reached by road, and the Eagle's Bend on the Eagle Road towards Trollstigen. Geiranger is about 3 hours by car from Ålesund and its airport.
