Discover Gothenburg
Gothenburg was founded in 1621 on Sweden's west coast, and Dutch engineers dug its canals in the manner of Dutch towns; they still ring the historic centre today. It is Sweden's second city and the largest port in the Nordic region.
The city has broad parks such as the Garden Society (Trädgårdsföreningen), the Haga district of cafés and wooden houses, and Liseberg, opened in 1923 and one of the largest amusement parks in the Nordic region. The Feskekôrka fish market, in a building shaped like a church, is known for fresh seafood.
A few minutes away by tram and ferry is the southern archipelago, rocky car-free islands that make a quiet summer outing for families. Fast trains reach Stockholm in about 3 hours.
