Discover Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur grew up where the Klang and Gombak rivers meet, and on that same confluence stands Masjid Jamek, the oldest of its great mosques, opened in 1909. Nearby are Merdeka Square, where independence was declared, and the copper-domed Sultan Abdul Samad Building.
The city's symbol is the Petronas Twin Towers: 452 metres and 88 floors, joined by a skybridge on floors 41 and 42 at 170 metres, with an observation deck on the 86th floor looking over the whole city. At their foot are KLCC Park and the Suria KLCC mall.
Kuala Lumpur is a shopping city, from the malls of Bukit Bintang to the crafts of Central Market. The limestone Batu Caves are 13 km to the north, and about 25 km to the south is Putrajaya, with its pink mosque on the lake.
We suggest three to four nights in the capital, staying near the towers or Bukit Bintang.
