The medina of Tunis
Half a day
All year; mornings are best
You enter the medina by Bab el Bhar and climb Rue Jamaa Zitouna between the shops to the Great Mosque. You walk through the perfume souk and the chechia souk, where the red felt caps are made, visit a traditional house such as Dar Lasram or Dar Ben Abdallah, and climb to a terrace over the rooftops and the Zaytuna minaret.
Good to know
- Most shops close on Sunday
- The Zaytuna prayer hall is for worshippers
- Bargaining is normal in the souks
