A morning among historic shophouses, the Kapitan Keling Mosque and the murals, ending with lunch of Penang's best-known halal dishes.

The experience
UNESCO inscribed George Town on the World Heritage List in 2008, with Melaka, as two trading towns on the Strait of Malacca where Malay, Chinese, Indian and European cultures lived side by side for centuries.
The walk with our guide starts at the Kapitan Keling Mosque, founded by Indian Muslim traders in the early 19th century, with its domes and white minaret, then follows the Street of Harmony, where places of worship stand side by side, and the rows of shophouses with coloured façades and wooden shutters.
On Armenian Street and Lebuh Chulia you find the murals the city has been known for since 2012, and small iron sculptures that tell each street's history. You can travel between stops by trishaw.
The walk ends with lunch of nasi kandar, the dish of Penang's Indian Muslims, or sour and spicy assam laksa, at a halal restaurant we choose for you.
