The Eastern & Oriental Hotel on George Town's waterfront

Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang

A historic all-suite hotel on George Town's waterfront

Historic palace

About Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang

Founded by the Sarkies brothers in the 1880s on George Town's waterfront, the hotel offers suites only, in its heritage wing and modern annexe.

The Sarkies brothers, who went on to found Raffles in Singapore, opened the Eastern & Oriental in George Town in the 1880s on Farquhar Street, facing the Strait of Malacca. After a full restoration it reopened in the early 2000s and is now one of Asia's best-known historic hotels.

It has two parts: the Heritage Wing, with timber floors and antique furniture, and the modern Victory Annexe, with suites whose balconies face the sea and the city. Every room is a suite, so all are spacious and suit families.

The hotel stands at the edge of the UNESCO-listed heritage zone, within walking distance of Kapitan Keling Mosque and the murals. We ask the restaurants to confirm halal meals in advance.

Dining

At the table
