The northern highlands: Uzungöl and Ayder
Lakes, forests and mountain meadows above the Black Sea, wrapped in morning mist. The coolest of Türkiye in summer.
Uzungöl · Türkiye
The experience
The Turkish north is where many Gulf families spend the summer: mild weather, light rain and green meadows running up to the peaks. This experience brings together its two finest stops.
It starts at Uzungöl, the long lake among the forests about 95 km from Trabzon, overlooked by a twin-minaret mosque. You spend the day between the lakeside path and the high pastures above the valley, with trout for lunch at one of its restaurants.
Then you cross to the Ayder plateau in Rize, on the slopes of the Kaçkar Mountains, past tea gardens and the Fırtına valley with its old stone bridges. Ayder has wooden houses, waterfalls and hot springs, and cool air even in August.
We arrange the transfers by private car with an Arabic-speaking driver, as the roads are mountainous and the drive between Uzungöl and Ayder takes about three hours.
