The experience
Table Mountain is Cape Town's emblem, its flat summit at about 1,085 metres often draped in white cloud that locals call the tablecloth. It was named one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature in 2011 and is part of Table Mountain National Park.
The cableway has run since 1929, and the floors of its cars turn a full circle on the way up, so every passenger sees the city and ocean on all sides. At the top are easy walking paths, viewpoints and a café.
From above you see Table Bay and Robben Island, Lion's Head, the beaches of Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles running south.
The cableway stops in strong wind or when mist covers the top, so we keep a flexible day in your programme and book tickets online to avoid queues.
