Gabala: cable cars, a lake and waterfalls
Two days between the Tufandağ cable cars, Lake Nohur and the Seven Beauties waterfall. Cool Caucasus air in summer.
Gabala · Azerbaijan
The experience
Gabala is the mountain destination Azerbaijani families prefer, about three and a half hours from Baku. The road is part of the experience, passing Shamakhi and its historic mosque before climbing through hills and forest.
At the Tufandağ mountain resort you ride the cable car above the forests to the heights, with cool air and views over the valley. In winter the resort turns into ski slopes; in summer the heights stay green for walks.
The next day you visit Lake Nohur among wooded hills, then Yeddi Gözel, "the seven beauties", a chain of small waterfalls reached by steps through the trees.
We arrange a stay at a family resort in Gabala and transfers by private car with driver, and the trip can continue to Sheki, about an hour and a half away.
