Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens
The Habsburgs' summer residence, with its imperial rooms and gardens running up to the Gloriette. A World Heritage site since 1996.
Vienna · Austria
The experience
Schönbrunn was the Habsburgs' summer residence, home to Empress Maria Theresa, Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth, Sisi. The palace and its gardens joined UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1996.
You walk through the state rooms and imperial apartments with an audio guide or private guide, then out into the wide formal gardens and the Neptune Fountain, and up to the Gloriette on the hill for a view of the palace and Vienna.
The grounds also hold Schönbrunn Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in the world, and a hedge maze that children love.
We book timed entry for the palace, and suggest a full day if you travel with children.
