The Kitzsteinhorn glacier

The experience
The Kitzsteinhorn rises above Kaprun, about 10 minutes from Zell am See. A series of modern cable cars, running all year, takes you up to the Gipfelwelt 3000.
At the top, the Top of Salzburg platform at 3,029 metres seems to float over the glacier, with views of Austria's highest peaks, the Grossglockner among them. The summit station has a Hohe Tauern National Park gallery and a cinema.
In summer the Ice Arena below the summit opens with slides and a snow beach, so children play in the snow in July and August. In winter the mountain is a ski area.
It is cold at the top even in summer: bring warm clothes and sunglasses, and pick a clear day.
