The Grossglockner High Alpine Road
A 48 km mountain road with 36 hairpins, up to Austria's highest peak and largest glacier.

The experience
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road crosses the Hohe Tauern National Park for 48 km with 36 hairpin bends, reaching its highest point at the Hochtor pass, 2,504 metres.
The goal is the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe at 2,369 metres, facing the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain, and the Pasterze, the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. It is named after Emperor Franz Joseph, who came here with Empress Sisi in 1856.
Along the road are viewpoints, visitor centres and restaurants, and marmots in the meadows.
The road is usually open from early May to early November. We arrange a private driver from Zell am See, as the hairpins make for tiring driving.
