About Villa d'Este, Lake Como

A hotel since 1873 in Cernobbio, with historic gardens, a floating pool on the lake, 151 rooms and suites and four private villas.

Villa d'Este was built in 1568 as the residence of Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, on the western shore of Lake Como at Cernobbio, and became a hotel in 1873. Historic gardens with old trees run down to the water's edge.

Its 151 rooms and suites are in two buildings: the historic Cardinal Building and the Queen's Pavilion. For complete privacy, four private villas stand within the grounds, suited to large families.

Its best-known feature is the pool floating on the lake, with the summer Sundeck restaurant beside it, for hotel guests only. Private boats leave from the hotel's jetty for Bellagio and the lake's villas.

Dining

At the table

Executive chef Andrea Guerini oversees the restaurants: Veranda for fine Italian cooking over the lake, Grill for grilled meats and seafood under the trees from April to October, and Il Platano for Mediterranean-Japanese dishes in summer.

Wellness

Rest and renewal

The hotel has a spa and a sporting club with tennis courts and a gym, as well as the pool floating on the lake.
