Phang Nga Bay and Koh Panyee
A day by boat among hundreds of limestone islands, sea-kayaking into hidden lagoons, and lunch in a Muslim fishing village built over the water.

The experience
Phang Nga Bay lies between Phuket and Krabi, scattered with tall, forested limestone islands and fringed with mangroves. It is a marine national park, and its best-known sight is Khao Phing Kan and the needle rock of Koh Tapu, known around the world as "James Bond Island".
Small boats and sea kayaks slip under the rock into inner lagoons called hongs, invisible from the open sea and walled in by limestone on every side. A local paddler takes the oars, so no experience is needed.
In the middle of the bay is Koh Panyee, a Muslim fishing village built on stilts in the shadow of a huge rock, with its own mosque, school and floating football pitch. Lunch there is fresh seafood, halal as a matter of course.
We arrange the day on a private speedboat or yacht from Phuket or Krabi, so you set the timing and avoid the busiest hours at the famous islands.
