The experience
The Kremlin is Moscow's historic fortress and the seat of Russian government, enclosed by red walls and towers topped with stars. Inside are Cathedral Square, where the tsars were crowned, the Tsar Bell and Tsar Cannon, and the Grand Kremlin Palace.
The Armoury is one of the richest museums in the world, with the tsars' crowns, thrones and carriages and the famous Fabergé eggs. Entry is by timed ticket, which we book for you in advance.
From the Kremlin you walk out onto Red Square, with St Basil's Cathedral and its nine coloured domes, the historic GUM arcade and the red facade of the State Historical Museum. UNESCO listed the Kremlin and Red Square in 1990.
The day ends in Zaryadye Park, whose floating bridge over the river looks back at the Kremlin at sunset. The tour takes a full day at an easy pace, with lunch at a nearby halal restaurant.
