Baking lavash in the tonir
1 to 2 hours
All year
Lavash is Armenia's thin traditional bread; UNESCO added its making and meaning in Armenian culture to the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014. The dough is stretched very thin over a cushion and slapped onto the wall of a tonir oven dug into the ground, where it bakes in under a minute.
We arrange the visit at a village house in Garni or near Noravank, with a lunch of herbs, cheese and grilled dishes.
Good to know
- Children enjoy it
- We order the grill with lamb or chicken
