Auwal Mosque
The Auwal Mosque on Dorp Street in Bo-Kaap was built in 1794, the first mosque in South Africa. Its founding is linked to Imam Abdullah ibn Qadi Abdus Salaam, known as Tuan Guru, who wrote out the Quran from memory during his exile on Robben Island. You can pray there during a visit to the quarter.
