Malioboro runs from the railway station to near the sultan's palace, lined with shops and stalls selling batik, leather and handicrafts, plus the traditional Beringharjo market. It is liveliest in the evening, and you can ride along it in a horse-drawn cart.

For genuine hand-made batik we suggest established shops rather than stalls, and our guide will help you tell it from printed cloth.
