Kota Tua, the old town
Kota Tua Jakarta
Kota Tua was the centre of Dutch-era Batavia, and its stone buildings still surround the wide Fatahillah Square. The best known is the old city hall, now the Jakarta History Museum, with museums of fine art, ceramics and traditional puppets nearby.
We suggest visiting in the morning before the heat builds, with a short stop at the old port of Sunda Kelapa, where traditional wooden ships still moor.
