Istiqlal Mosque
Masjid Istiqlal
Istiqlal Mosque stands in central Jakarta near Merdeka Square and the National Monument. It was built to celebrate Indonesia's independence and opened in 1978. The main prayer hall is crowned by a large dome on steel columns and surrounded by wide galleries and courtyards.
Visitors are welcome outside prayer times on guided tours, and we can arrange your visit around Friday or midday prayer. Jakarta Cathedral faces it across the street, a sign of the city's coexistence.
