The Grand Mosque of Paris
Grande Mosquée de Paris
The Grand Mosque of Paris opened on 15 July 1926 in honour of the Muslims who died for France in the First World War. It is built in Hispano-Moorish style with a 33-metre minaret inspired by that of the Zitouna Mosque in Tunis, around a large arcaded courtyard, Andalusian gardens, zellige tilework and carved wood.
Friday prayers are held here, and visitors are welcome outside prayer times. Its public wing has a restaurant and a tea room serving mint tea and North African pastries, next to the Jardin des Plantes in the Latin Quarter.
