The Citadel and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali
قلعة صلاح الدين الأيوبي
Salah al-Din began the Citadel in 1176, and it remained the seat of government in Egypt for about seven centuries. Its best-known building is the Mosque of Muhammad Ali (1830 to 1848), with its great dome and two slender minarets; from its terrace you see the whole of Cairo, and the pyramids on a clear day.
