The Maldives
A biosphere reserve with mantas, then dinner beneath the sea
We designed this journey for those who want two faces of the Maldives in one stay. It begins in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, on a forested island with spacious villas and children's programmes, and in season a trip to Hanifaru Bay to swim with manta rays.
A seaplane then takes you to South Ari Atoll for four nights in an overwater villa, with a whale shark snorkel and dinner at Ithaa, five metres beneath the surface. On departure day, a short tour of Malé's Old Friday Mosque and King Salman Mosque if your flight allows.
Price on request, depending on resorts, villas and season; the order can be reversed or either resort replaced.
Day 1
Meet at Malé airport, then the seaplane to your resort in Baa Atoll (about 35 minutes). The rest of the day is yours.
Day 2
In season, a boat trip to Hanifaru Bay to snorkel with manta rays; otherwise a reef snorkel with a marine biologist. In the evening, the observatory.
Day 3
A free day for the family, with a sandbank picnic if you wish.
Day 4
The seaplane to South Ari Atoll via Malé and arrival at your overwater villa.
Day 5
A morning boat trip to the protected area to snorkel beside whale sharks, and a restful afternoon.
Day 6
A free day at the villa and spa, then dinner at Ithaa, five metres down.
Day 7
A free day, with a dhoni cruise at sunset to watch the dolphins.
Day 8
The seaplane to Malé, a short tour of its mosques and markets if your flight allows, then departure.
