Old Hanoi and the Temple of Literature
A full day
October to April
The walk starts with a private guide at Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son temple, then winds through the Old Quarter among silk, silver and spice shops, with a stop for egg coffee. In the afternoon you visit the Temple of Literature, built in 1070 as the country's first university, with its five courtyards and the scholars' stelae set on stone turtles. The day can end with a traditional water-puppet show.
