On some nights bioluminescent plankton light up along the shore of Vaadhoo in Raa Atoll whenever the water moves, so the waves look studded with blue stars. It is a natural event that cannot be predicted precisely; it shows best on dark, moonless nights and can appear on other islands' beaches too.
