Malé: historic mosques and markets
Half a day
All year, in the morning
Malé is the cultural and commercial centre of the Maldives. The tour starts at the Old Friday Mosque (Hukuru Miskiy), built of carved coral stone in 1658, with its wood and coral carving, then the Grand Friday Mosque of the Islamic Centre and the King Salman Mosque, the largest in the country. It ends at the fish market and local market, with tuna, fruit and spices, and at Sultan Park and the National Museum. If your arrival falls on a Friday, you can join Friday prayer in one of its mosques.
Good to know
