Sunrise on Mount Batur

April to October
You leave the hotel at about 2 am, then climb for about two hours with a local guide and torches to reach the summit before sunrise. From the top you see Lake Batur below, Mount Agung, and on clear days Mount Rinjani on Lombok.
The descent is easier, about an hour and a half, followed by breakfast at a restaurant facing the volcano.
Good to know
- Needs good fitness and sturdy walking shoes
- It is cold at the summit before dawn
- Not suitable for young children
