Old Tbilisi on foot
From the sulphur baths to Narikala by cable car, then lanes of wooden balconies. A day with an Arabic-speaking guide.
Tbilisi · Georgia
The experience
The walk starts in Abanotubani, where the sulphur baths sit over the hot springs the city grew around. A few steps away is the Jumah Mosque, where the city's Muslims pray, and from there a short path leads to a small waterfall in the Leghvtakhevi gorge.
You then cross the river to Rike Park and ride the cable car up to Narikala, whose walls date back to the 4th century. From the top you see the old town, Metekhi Church on its rock and the glass Bridge of Peace over the Mtkvari.
In the afternoon you go down into the lanes of the old town, with its carved wooden balconies and its carpet and craft shops, ending on Rustaveli Avenue.
The day can finish in a private room at one of the sulphur baths for your family, available by advance booking.
