The monasteries of Lake Tana

On the islands of Lake Tana and the Zege peninsula stand old round monasteries with thatched roofs, their walls covered with colourful religious paintings. A half-day boat trip from Bahir Dar reaches them, and you may see hippos where the Blue Nile leaves the lake.
