Saint Catherine and Mount Sinai
A night and half a day
March to May and September to November
Saint Catherine's Monastery has stood at the foot of Mount Sinai (about 2,285 metres) since the 6th century, and the Saint Catherine Area has been on the UNESCO list since 2002. Visitors climb to the summit at night, in about three hours, to watch the sunrise over the Sinai mountains, then come down to visit the monastery. The drive is about two hours from Dahab and about three from Sharm El Sheikh.
Good to know
- The summit is cold before dawn even in summer
- The climb needs good fitness
- The monastery's visiting hours are limited
