Khor Virap beneath Mount Ararat

Spring and autumn, in the morning
Khor Virap stands on a small hill near the Turkish border, the closest point in Armenia to Mount Ararat, so the mountain rises behind it in full on clear days. It is one of Armenia's best-known and most photographed views.
We visit in the morning when the air is clearest, on the way south to Tatev or as a half-day trip from Yerevan.

- Ararat lies in Türkiye and is seen from here across the border
- Haze sometimes hides it in summer
